Job Description: Senior Solutions Architect (Expert)

Position Purpose: The Expert Senior Solutions Architect will be accountable for the planning and implementation of comprehensive technical solutions that meet our clients' business requirements on high-impact projects. They will lead the evolution of the enterprise architecture and considers all the business drivers to arrive at the best solution. Leads development of the end to end technical solution architecture for high complexity and high risk IT initiatives. Balances the long-term (or “big picture”) and short-term implications of individual decisions and applies multiple solutions to business problems. Translates business needs into Enterprise Architecture requirements and identifies organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the EA. Will provide leadership to lower level solution architects.

 

Key Accountabilities:

Lead the creation or evolution of the enterprise architecture (EA) function or program- Lead the identification and analysis of enterprise business drivers to derive enterprise business, information, technical and solution architecture requirements; analyzing industry, technology and market trends to determine their potential impacts on the enterprise
Consult with program/project teams to fit solution to architecture across all viewpoints
Identify organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the EA
Lead and facilitate the creation of governing principles to guide solution decision making for the enterprise
Lead the development of an implementation plan for the EA, based on business requirements and IT strategies; overseeing EA implementation, ongoing EA refinement activities, and the documentation of all EA design and analysis work- Ensure that the optimal governance structure and compliance activities (such as handling waivers) are associated with EA compliance

 

Knowledge and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science

15+ years of IT solution delivery, preferably playing a diverse set of roles (e.g. programmer, architect, project manager)
7+ years of Enterprise Architecture/ Solutions Architecture experience on large, enterprise projects
Proven experience at leading the design and solutions from conception to implementation
Experience with all aspects of architecture including application, data, security and infrastructure- Experience building high availability and transaction processing systems
Experienced with program/projects involving complex integration of disparate types of technologies/platforms
Project management experience would be an asset
Working knowledge of financial applications as well as host based systems- would be an asset-
Server storage networking experience – would be an asset

 

Skills and Competencies:

Detailed understanding of SQL database function, including Oracle and MS SQL Server
 Detailed experience with development methodologies
Successful experience building high availability and transaction processing systems
Solid experience with a variety of technologies/approaches including J2EE, .NET, mainframe platform, packaged applications, multi-platforms applications, human workflow, EAI, SOA- Strong understanding of TCP/IP data networking
Expert understanding of the architecture discipline, processes, concepts and best practices
Expert architecture design and modeling capabilities- Expert understanding of a wide variety of technologies
Advanced ability to apply industry/technical knowledge to provide solutions that increase business results and/or minimize risk regarding the integration of applications across multiple product systems and delivery channels
Knowledge of business re-engineering principles and processes
Ability to get up to speed quickly on organizational structure, business strategies, processes, and terminology for the division supported
Strong leadership skills that can effectively manage large cross functional technical teams and ability to define, influence and impact the technical direction
Advanced ability to quickly evaluate options, make decisions and execute within an intense high-tech environment
Expert documentation, written and verbal communication skills
